The
North America Division is responsible for all studies and evaluations on the
continent with the exception of studies in Mexico, which
are the responsibility of our
Asia/Pacific/Latin America Division.
The division studies thousands of petroleum properties annually located
throughout the United States and Canada. DeGolyer and MacNaughton has
established offices in
Houston
and Calgary to better serve client needs in those areas.
In
addition to providing annual reserves estimates and economic evaluations to
numerous clients using PHDWIN and
other economics programs, the division is involved in the following:
| Integrated field studies | Unitizations |
| Coal-bed methane projects | Reservoir simulations |
| Enhanced oil recovery projects | Purchase and sales packages |
| Waterflood evaluations | Fair market valuations |
| Horizontal drilling projects | Expert witness testimonies |
Since the birth of Everette DeGolyer and Lewis MacNaughton’s partnership in 1936, the firm has been at the center of significant oil events in the United States. In the 1930’s D&M was commissioned by the Director of the U.S. Naval Petroleum reserves to assess the production of the giant East Texas field. The firm has evaluated fields in virtually every petroleum-bearing basin in the United States.
The firm has appraised thousands of properties in preparation for divestiture. D&M’s strengths in data gathering and handling enabled the project team to complete the analyses within a tight time frame.
D&M has been analyzing active plays such as the Barnett Shale, Cotton Valley/Bossier, Bakken, Wasatch, and Mesaverde. We have studied coal bed methane projects throughout the Black Warrior, Cherokee, Raton, San Juan, and Uinta Basins. The firm has continued to evaluate existing reserves and new activity in the offshore Gulf of Mexico shelf and in the deep water areas, Permian, South Louisiana, South Texas, Mid-Continent, Mississippi, and West Coast areas.
The Gulf of Mexico deepwater and subsalt evaluations have been in the Viosca Knoll, Mississippi Canyon, Ewing Bank, Green Canyon, Gordon Banks, and East Breaks areas offshore from Louisiana and Texas. These evaluations include many of the major deepwater discoveries and involve extensive geophysical, geographical, petrophysical, and engineering analyses.
D&M performed the first evaluation of the Prudhoe Bay field in the 1960s and continues to maintain a presence in Alaska, performing evaluations of various North Slope and Cook Inlet fields.
D&M utilizes experience and efficiencies in assisting smaller public and private companies. D&M is actively expanding its relationships with the small U.S. independents during this time of asset consolidation and growth.
Data can be input from publicly available sources, in-house client program files or by hand. D&M routinely converts current commercially available reserves forecasting files used by clients into its internal databases, and outputs using our updated reporting systems. D&M’s results are often provided to our clients in formats consistent with the clients reserves management system that the client can use for its own "working copy."
