Faiz Koyassan Veedu joined DeGolyer and MacNaughton in 2011 as a graduate from the University of Texas at Austin. While at the University, he worked as a research assistant with the EOR research group, performing both experimental and modeling tasks of chemical EOR methods, including polymer flooding, surfactant-polymer flooding, and alkali-surfactant-polymer flooding.

Koyassan Veedu received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 2006 from Bharati Vidyapeeth University in Pune, India. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2010 with a master’s degree in petroleum engineering. He is a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Major Projects
Since joining D&M, Koyassan Veedu worked on various projects, including a pilot simulation design of chemical flooding for one of the fields located in Kuwait. He history matched the performance of the field and evaluated the performance of different EOR methods such as chemical, gas, and WAG processes using simulation study for that highly heterogeneous carbonate field.

In Kuwait, he worked on building a field development strategy based on reservoir simulations for a newly discovered heavy oil field. For Libya, Koyassan Veedu led the work on field development studies of reservoirs with complex faulting and natural fractures. He was involved in evaluating and designing gas and chemical EOR opportunities through performing full-field and sector model simulations for one of the fields in Algeria.

He has led several laboratory experiments such as coreflood and phase behavior tests, which were used in the design of chemical EOR techniques. He evaluated the effect of heterogeneity and geochemical reactions on EOR performance of sandstone and carbonate reservoirs.

He has worked evaluating simulation models for some of the largest producing fractured reservoirs in Kurdistan, which included tuning aquifer models, the use of the pressure transient analysis to establish matrix contribution to a dual-porosity system, and modeling discrete fracture networks.

More recently, Koyassan Veedu worked on an EOR project where he designed and evaluated CO2 flooding for a field in Texas. He was also involved in the reserves appraisal of the CO2 flooding for that field.
