J. David Hooks joined DeGolyer and MacNaughton in 1996 after 11 years with ARCO Oil and Gas and ARCO International Oil and Gas Company.

Hooks received a bachelor degree in geology in 1983 and a master’s degree in 1985 from the University of Alabama. A certified Texas Professional Geoscientist and member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Geological Society of America, Hooks was named a Vice President of D&M in 1998.

Major Projects

Since joining D&M, Hooks has participated in numerous reserves estimation projects worldwide, including field equity determinations in the Timor Gap area. A member of the Asia-Pacific Division, he has extensive experience in China, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia where he has evaluated both discoveries and producing fields, many on an annual basis. Hooks is proficient in reservoir geomodeling, having formed and serving as administrator of an intra company Petrel Users Group website.

Prior to joining D&M, Hooks worked as both an exploration and reservoir geologist with ARCO and ARCO International Oil and Gas Company. During his time with ARCO, Hooks was involved in exploration and exploitation of carbonate reservoirs in the Gulf of Mexico. He was also part of an exploration/development team that mapped and drilled multiple horizontal Austin Chalk wells in the East Texas area. After transferring to ARCO International, he was responsible for a wide range of reservoir and basin assessments worldwide, and participated in a major joint venture field study. Hooks has experience performing core description, petrographic analysis, and both conventional and fractured reservoir mapping.
