Jacob (Jake) G. Walker joined DeGolyer and MacNaughton in 2003 and is an expert on the industry-standard deterministic method of reserves estimation. He has taught seminars in Russia and Kazakhstan on reserves estimation and reporting using the guidelines of the SEC and PRMS. Prior to joining D&M, he worked for Miller and Lents as a reservoir engineer.

Walker received his bachelor’s degree in 1998 and master’s degree in 2000, both in petroleum engineering, from the University of Texas at Austin. Walker has co-authored three SPE technical papers on remediation of gas wells experiencing condensate banking. A registered professional engineer in Texas, Walker is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers where he is on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Chapter. He became a Vice President of D&M in 2006.

Major Projects

Since joining D&M, Walker has served as project coordinator or reservoir engineer on numerous oil and gas reserves evaluations throughout the world. Recently, he has evaluated reserves and contingent resources of deepwater Gulf of Mexico oil and gas fields in various stages of development for several clients, and has evaluated oil fields in the North Slope of Alaska. He has performed annual reserves evaluations of numerous oil and gas fields in Russia and regionally significant oil and gas-condensate fields in the Caspian Sea. Walker performed a reserves evaluation of gas-condensate fields in Uzbekistan for parties including international lenders and has worked with a Chinese client estimating its annual SEC reserves in support of its U.S. market listing.

He is an expert in performing field development studies for fields in Russia, including waterflood recovery potential of a giant oil field being developed with horizontal wells in the Krasnoyarsk region, development potential of a multi-reservoir oil field on a complex development plan in Western Siberia, infill sidetrack drilling potential of numerous oil fields in the Western Siberia and Orenburg regions, and base-production decline estimation of giant waterfloods in Western Siberia.

His early D&M projects included the evaluation of reserves of gas fields in Nigeria that were part of a West African LNG plant project. Walker’s early tenure also included reserves estimations of offshore gas fields in Egypt, oil fields in the North Sea, and onshore oil fields in Algeria.
