Patrick W. Collins joined DeGolyer and MacNaughton in 2013 as an engineer in the Reservoir Studies Division.

Collins earned a bachelor’s degree in ocean engineering from Texas A&M University in 2012. In 2016, Collins earned his master’s degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University, with his research focused on general reservoir engineering, well performance analysis, production forecasting, and numerical analysis and modeling in unconventional reservoirs. Collins is an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.

Major Projects

Collins’ work has been focused primarily on well performance evaluation in unconventional resources using analytical and numerical modeling, diagnostic techniques, and uncertainty assessments. Additionally, he has performed numerous reserves and resources evaluations for shale and tight oil systems worldwide.

Recent work has included a number of well performance studies and resources assessments of shale and tight oil and gas plays in Africa, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, North America (Bakken, Eagle Ford, Haynesville, Horn River, Marcellus, Mississippi Lime, Montney, and Woodford), and South America. As part of this work, Collins performed multi-well simulation studies to assess well spacing and interference, diagnostic analysis to assess completion effectiveness and performance trends, and experimental design studies to assess uncertainty.

Collins is also heavily involved in D&M’s development of software tools for analyzing and forecasting production data in unconventional resources, where he interacts frequently with clients and provides training.
