Heidi M. Dowd joined DeGolyer and MacNaughton in 2021 as a geologist specializing in reservoir characterization, sedimentology and stratigraphy, 3–D geocellular modeling, and appraisal to mature field development. Prior to joining D&M, Dowd worked for 7 years with OMV in Austria and Norway on international assets from the Middle East to the Barents Sea, and 9 years working with ExxonMobil, Occidental Petroleum, and Numeric Solutions on projects internationally and in the United States.

Dowd earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from Illinois State University in 2000 and earned her master’s degree in geoscience in 2003 from University of Iowa, specializing in carbonate stratigraphy. Dowd is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the Society of Sedimentary Geology (SEPM), and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

Major Projects

Dowd has more than 16 years of total industry experience in onshore multi-well developments and offshore appraisal well development projects. She has strong skills in 3–D geomodeling and integrating multiple datasets for reservoir characterization, estimation, and simulation projects. Additional skills include working with core (SCAL, RCA) and thin section data to identify facies using sedimentological and sequence stratigraphic methods.

Dowd served as the development geologist for OMV Norge on the Wisting discovery license in the Barents Sea, offshore Norway. This was an appraisal development project that included reservoir characterization, volume uncertainty modeling, and risk assessment of the Jurassic and Triassic Sto and Fruholmen Formations. She participated in project/decision gate reviews with partners Equinor, Petoro, and Idemitsu for development strategy and field facility decisions.

Dowd was involved with EOR development and primary development projects with Occidental Petroleum in California. Projects included primary well planning and development of fractured Monterey Shales (porcelanites) in a compressional detachment fold complex and an EOR waterflood drilling campaign in a gravity drainage field with estuarine tidal sand flats in a normal, faulted plunging anticline.
