Fidel Avelar is a Vice President and Principal Systems Analyst who joined DeGolyer and MacNaughton in 2009, providing leadership for enterprise systems, network infrastructure, and data storage environments supporting oil and gas consulting and evaluation workflows. He has over 25 years of experience in the industry.

Avelar attended Moorpark College in Moorpark, California, and completed his studies at the Universal Computing Institute in Reseda, California, with a focus on computer systems and information technology. He was named a Vice President of D&M in 2020.

He plays a critical leadership role in safeguarding the stability and security of systems vital to oil and gas consulting activities. His responsibilities include oversight and support of enterprise networks, shared storage platforms, and backup and archive systems that protect sensitive technical and client data. He regularly leads analysis of system and connectivity issues, coordinates resolution across technical teams, and helps minimize disruptions to consulting workflows.

Avelar has led enhancements in data storage reliability and recovery capabilities, supporting uninterrupted access to large technical datasets used by engineers and geoscientists. He also promotes strong security and data stewardship practices, supporting organizational standards related to secure access, communications, and the protection of confidential information.
